DEEP CRYOGENIC TREATMENT

The process is based on a pre-programmed thermal cycle that controls the cooling of the material by means of sensors fitted in the cryogenic chamber. The treatment makes use of the advantages of both ultra cold nitrogen gas and complete immersion in liquid nitrogen to ensure uniform cooling. The material can then be allowed to gradually return to ambient temperature.

Materials that require post cryo-tempering (in order to stabilise the newly formed Martensite) are then treated in an oven. The use of precisely controlled temperature profiles ensures that no thermal stress or shock occurs during the treatment.

DCT does not replace heat treatment but could be considered an extension of it.
